“Yes it has been confirmed following laboratory test that there are two cases now of bird flu outbreak in Nueva Ecija specifically in the town of Jaen, in a quail farm…and in a layer farm in San Isidro with the population of 20, 000,” said Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Emmanuel Piñol.
The Agriculture Department said there are two reported cases of bird flu in the province particularly at poultry farms in the towns of Jaen and San Isidro.
Despite this, the agriculture secretary noted authorities have already addressed the situation and hope the avian flu would no longer spread in other towns.
“But the good thing is right after this was reported to us early this week like last week, we actually instituted already quarantine measures. Fortunately, we have set up a quarantine area there so we’re not as worried as Jaen and San Isidro than we are with the San Luis Pampanga,” said Piñol.
The DA is now enforcing a one-kilometer quarantine radius and seven-kilometer control radius in the province.
Authorities are also continuously conducting surveillance in the area.
The virus that is infecting fowls in Nueva Ecija is a subtype H5, similar to the strain that was found at poultry farms in San Luis Pampanga.
Agriculture officials also noted the possibility that even before avian flu outbreak was declared in Pampanga, poultry animals from the said province may have already been brought to Nueva Ejica, and those birds are showing symptoms just now. — Rey Pelayo | UNTV News & Rescue
