Incoming executive director of National Disaster Risk Reduction ang Management Council Retired Navy Vice Admiral Alexander Pama (UNTV News)

“Overcome the challenges and focus on the job kasi alam mo kapag hindi ka nag-24/7 (24 hours-7days a week) dito ay maiiwanan ka ng changing situation.

“This is indeed a very very challenging job — that is a fact that does not escape me. And surprisingly to say I’m coming in to the job with my eyes wide open. We anticipate the chalenges that are before us. But then again, ang hinihingi ko lang sa atin lalo na sa ating mga kababayan, this is an effort that is not solely with the domain of NDRRMC and the Government… lahat po tayo ay kailangang magtulong tulong,” anang bagong NDRRMC chief.

(LEAH YLAGAN / UNTV News)

MANILA, Philippines – The main office of the Department of National Defense (DND) in Camp Aguinaldo has been placed under lockdown after one of its personnel contracted coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The agency will reopen on Friday (July 17).

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana himself earlier announced that one of the staff was tested positive for COVID-19, which prompted the official to volunteer for self-quarantine.

Based on the result of his COVID-19 released today, Lorenzana said he is negative of the disease. MNP (with details from Lea Ylagan)

Defense chief Lorenzana to go on quarantine after staff contracts COVID-19

Robie de Guzman   •   July 14, 2020

MANILA, Philippines – Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Tuesday said he would go on self-quarantine after a member of his staff tested positive for novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Lorenzana, who heads the National Task Force Against COVID-19, said his staff learned of his positive swab test result when they landed together in Jolo, Sulu on Monday.

He said his aide was also with him when they went to Subic, Zambales last Friday.

The Defense chief, however, assured that the said staff member did not interact with President Rodrigo Duterte during their Jolo trip.

Lorenzana said he already underwent swab testing and will await the result while on quarantine.

This is not the first time that Lorenzana went on quarantine as he voluntarily went on isolation in May for having close contact with Armed Forces of the Philippines chief General Felimon Santos Jr. who contracted and recovered from the disease.
