5.2 magnitude earthquake rocks Occidental Mindoro

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake jolted Occidental Mindoro at 4:06 a.m. Saturday (October 17).

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the center of the strong quake was located 21 kilometers northeast of Looc town and tremors were also felt in nearby areas.

The tremor was of tectonic origin, and had a depth of 12 kilometers.

The following are reported intensities around the center of the earthquake:

Intensity IV – Calatagan, Batangas; Tagaytay City

Intensity III – Talisay, Batangas; Carmona, Cavite; Marilao, Bulacan

Intensity II – Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Bacoor City, Cavite; Muntinlupa City; Las Pinas City; Marikina City; Quezon City; Plaridel, Malolos City, Calumpit and San Rafael, Bulacan;

The agency warned of more aftershocks and  advised residents to prepare.
