MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday reported that the construction of the Metro Rail Transit line 7 (MRT-7) is now 49.22 percent complete more than three years after construction started.
In a statement on Facebook, the DOTr said that civil works of the underground/depressed, at-grade, and elevated guideway are in various stages of construction, while civil works of nine of the 14 stations are in full swing.
Trackwork installations are also ongoing.
“Likewise, the required rolling stock of 108 cars has been completed, and are awaiting shipment pending the availability of the depot/holding area,” it added.
The 22-kilometer MRT-7 will connect Quezon City to San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan.
The line is expected to reduce travel time to 35 minutes from the current 2 to 3 hours.
The project is eyed to be completed by 2021, the DOTr said.
Officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) have pledged to donate their 14th-month pay for the Mindanao quake relief efforts.
DOTr officials include DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, all undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, and the heads of DOTr attached agencies.
During the flag ceremony on Tuesday (November 5) at the DOTr head office in Pampanga) Tugade said an initial amount of P1.2 million has already been raised with the said pledge, and it is expected to be doubled by tomorrow with more donations from DOTr employees.
“Hindi importante kung gaano kalaki ang maiambag. Ang mahalaga ay madevelop natin ang psyche ng pagtulong sa kapwa (it doesn’t matter how much we can donate, what’s important is that we all develop the psyche of helping others),” he said.—AAC
