MANILA, Philippines – Two out of five Filipinos, or 40% believe that the country’s economy will worsen in the next 12 months, according to the latest survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

The research group noted that the 40%, who were considered as ‘economic pessimists’, was the highest record in over 12 years since June 2008 at 52%.

Meanwhile, the 30%, who were seen as ‘economic optimists,’ was the lowest in five years since the 27% recorded in March 2015.

According to the SWS, the country’s net economic optimism or the expectation about the general economy declined to –9 which the agency considered as ‘mediocre’ from the ‘very high’ +38 in December 2019 and the lowest since the ‘low’ –19 in February 2009.

The survey was conducted from July 3 to 6 using mobile phones among 1,555 Filipinos aged 18 years old and above.

[Over the next 12 months, what do you think will happen to the economy of the Philippines?  Would you say it WILL BE BETTER, SAME, or WILL BE WORSE?]
