PolWatch is obviously Political Watch, but it is also a conscious approach to signify a shift and provide a contemporary-sounding way of calling a platform in discussing politics via Philippine television.
Political discussion in the media is often relegated to radio broadcasting and print publications because of the nature of politics itself: its being undeniably hard to discuss unless enough background information and sensible analysis are maintained. Hence, the birth of this politically-charged program.
As an extension of the elections-based coverage program, PollWatch, the renamed program was conceived to continue UNTV’s advocacy in enlightening the public about the murky and often confusing topics and issues relative to politics, governance and government, and public service.
This program is intended to provide a platform for encouraging healthy discussion of politics because the subject itself need not be complicated. It is the belief of the UNTV News and Current Affairs Department that the study of politics should not be hard, intimidating, and most of all very high-minded.
PolWatch is hosted by Law Professor Atty George Erwin Garcia, political analyst, Jose “Jocas” Castigador Jr., and Atty Lindley Santillan, who host the Bantay Kongreso segment.
