An alternative to blaring pop songs from your weekend staple of entertainment shows is UNTV’s A Song of Praise Music Festival. Launched as an annual song writing competition, the program hopes to encourage songwriters to create innovative styles in composing music that gives glory to God.
ASOP calls on both amateur and professional song writers to join the competition and get the chance to have their works interpreted by some of the most sought after pop artists of the Philippine music industry. Every week, the best song is chosen to qualify for the monthly and grand competition.
The show is hosted by the zany tandem of seasoned host Toni Rose Gayda and balladeer Richard Reynoso. Fortifying the musical standards, ASOP gathers highly acclaimed composers and music connoisseurs such as Mon Del Rosario, Noel Cabangon and Vehnee Saturno to sit as panel of judges. Songwriters and viewers alike learn valuable tips in composition from these masters as they critically evaluate each entry on the merits of lyrical content and expressiveness.
ASOP not only aims to lift the spirit with inspiring praise songs, but also advocates the much needed promotion of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) by qualifying works written in Filipino or regional dialects.
